Growers of Oregon annual ryegrass seed indicate that acres available for harvest in 2016 will decrease 4% from 2015 at 118,000 acres. The number of acres of harvest for perennial ryegrass available for harvest is estimated at 97,000 acres about the same as 2015.

Growers of Oregon tall fescue also indicate a slight decrease in total acreage from 2015. The number of acres of turf-type talls and forage fescue are unchanged from last year. A decline of about 10% has been noted in Kentucky 31 acreage.

While 2015 yields were lower due to drought conditions, this spring came through with adequate moisture. Currently, there is unprecedented heat which usually means an earlier and lighter crop. As of today, yields are expected to be about the same as last year also. In any event, all of the markers seem to indicate price stability through this fall of 2016 marketing season.
