Rain Continues To Soak The Willamette Valley

The mid-Willamette Valley received a whopping 5.36 inches of rain from Wednesday through Monday morning, and it hasn’t stopped yet this week.

Oregon State University’s Hyslop Research Farm, which sits halfway between Albany and Corvallis on Highway 20, usually gets about 3 inches for the entire month of October.

This is important to all of us because growers were still planting seed for the 2017 crop. This torrential rain has brought planting to a halt and puts into question whether anything more can be planted this fall. In 2 weeks, it will be too late to plant anything as the seedlings would never be mature to vernalize in the winter. When it does dry out, the slugs will be born again.

Of course, a year from now, this may be considered a blessing because it just may end up keeping grass seed supplies in balance!!
