Grass Consumption Study To Help Understand Market
Posted in General by Curtis Williams
The Oregon Seed Association (OSA), The Oregon Grass Seed Bargaining Association (OGSBA) and Oregon State University, through it’s Horticulture Department, have been working diligently this last year to improve the production and consumption data of Perennial Ryegrass and Tall Fescue. The underlying logic is to more accurately reflect market consumption and pricing to provide more stable economic impact.
They have compiled data beginning in 2004 and have included North American Production as much of the growth in production acres for Perennial Ryegrass is now coming from Minnesota and Canada. Relationships with OGSBA pricing and particular attention to carryover numbers highlight this report.
Remarkably, the production of both Tall Fescue and Perennial since 2008 has been pretty much the same! This puts more emphasis on accuracy of carryover and consumption numbers.
