It's Possible That Creeping Red Fescue Will Run Out

Just when you think you have got things figured out, reality comes along and proves you wrong! Such is the nature of our grass seed industry.

For the first time in a blue moon, it appears entirely possible that we are going to run out of Creeping Red Fescue. Even Canadians are trading it back and forth to each other at numbers approaching a dollar! As you know, there won’t be any new crop until at least August, and the Oregon crop cleaned up early due to poor yields.

Kentucky Bluegrass is in the same boat, with any new sale dependent on a test to determine the quality of what appears to be the last dredges of this crop. The price for common blue is also knocking on the door of a record along with the aforementioned Annual Ryegrass and now Creeping Red Fescue. This makes Perennial Ryegrass the prettiest girl at the dance.

The good news in all of this is that you should not be afraid to over order for spring. It’s a long time until new crop and prices are firm until then!
